SHIN ULTRAMAN RELEASE DATE & NEW FX CLIP REVEALED

The final event of TsubuCon 2021 was one that fans have been patiently waiting all year for: news on Producer Hideaki Anno and Director Shinji Higuchi’s massive reimagining of Tsuburaya Productions’ legendary series, Shin Ultraman.

Director Higuchi himself and lead actor Takumi Saito appeared on stage to share the latest information about the movie, including a new trailer featuring the Giant of Light delivering the “Shin version” of his legendary attack, which you can see here!

Classic! Now, you know what that beam was, and we at Ultraman Connection know what that beam was, but the irreverent Higuchi was hesitant to actually name it on stage. (He did mention that it starts with an S!) One thing he wasn’t afraid to share, however, was the new premiere date—May 13th, 2022!

Higuchi-san and Saito-san also spent their time on stage discussing the poster that’s made the rounds all through 2021, and what those mysterious objects means. The two identified the new design of Shin Ultraman’s Beta Capsule, as well as a pin badge and a dog tag that have engendered much discussion. When asked outright what these three items mean, the two enigmatically replied that these were the three items required to be “Shinji Kaminaga,” the character Saito-san plays in the movie.

As the segment ended, Higuchi-san and Saito-san were joined by a special guest, Bin Furuya, suit actor for the original Ultraman! Furuya expressed his earnest support for the project, excited to see the further evolution of the series he helped make a global smash-hit.

Shin Ultraman releases in theatres in Japan on May 13th, 2022. Though no global release plans have been announced, as soon as they are, Ultraman Connection will report on them! And for more from TsubuCon 2021, check out our massive Run of Show post right here on Ultraman Connection.
